The Destruction of Holy Places

Symbolic image of the demolition of numerous Russian churches, accompanied by the demolition of human reason and conscience, making people march under the bloody red flags, brings to mind the fate of Christ the Saviour Cathedral in Moscow (see below): its destruction in 1931 was heralded as something quite laudable and "progressive"...
It is hard to say whether at the time of the glorification anyone could foresee that just within 15 years the Cathedral would be rebuilt and re-consecrated for the Divine services.
"Thy faith hast saved thee".
Christ the Saviour Cathedral in Moscow
...As an everlasting commemoration of the unparalleled devotion, fidelity and love to the Holy Faith and Motherland which has glorified the Russian nation in these troublesome times, and as a symbol of our gratitude to the Providence of God, Who has saved Russia from impending annihilation, we have decided to build the church of Christ the Saviour in our ancient capital city of Moscow... May it stand for ages, and may the generations to come ever burn there the incense of gratitude before the holy Altar of the Lord, with love and imitation of the deeds of their ancestors.
Emperor Alexander Vilno, December 25, 1812
